You're absolutely right, when it's Nominet's actions that actually inspire a lack of trust in .co.uk, given they've been a bit of a hot mess since the early 2010's-ish.

Oversimplified summary:

There was a period around 2010 when the management at the time wanted to follow a more commercial route with various unrelated "investments".

Nominet members made it impeccably clear in a very loud manner to management that it would not be tolerated.

Management insisted on a vote which they inevitably lost.

Management departed.

Or there's also those 'gigabit crossover' cables, where they flipped pairs 3+4 as well as 1+2, which I only remember seeing for a short period of time.

They always seemed a bit pointless, and died out with crossovers I suspect.

Most optical cabling setups I encounter these days tend to be made so that you just use a straight through (A-B) cable, and it generally just works.

Although it is super easy to just pop the individual fibres out of the clip holding them together and flip them round.

The biggest polarity issue I see are with mtp/mpo cassettes, especially with multiple spans, you always seem to need to cross something there.

It was removed from the non-Fold devices in the US. They kept it for other countries due to only considering the US carriers to be ready for eSIM-only.

True, here in Europe they're definitely not. Especially on prepaid. I wouldn't buy a phone without dual physical sim. eSIM is nice for travelling but I want physical for my daily numbers. This way I can stick them in any phone I want and even in my 4G backup modem.

There was a time when the community was the attraction, although I wouldn't say "the insanely large community", given that at the (for me anyway) best/peak WoW times, your specific community was the server, which was maybe a couple of thousand or so?

Around that sort of time you would encounter known groups/people, e.g. characters that had a reputation as extremely good in PvP etc.

Then along came the cross-realm stuff, and fairly quickly community ceased to matter, you just queue up, play, and move on.

Great for ease of play etc, terrible for community.
