It will take generations, if it's even possible, for the US to recover its standing in the eyes of the world, and that standing was the core of our power.
"Fixing ourselves" is critical, but just the first step. There's a huge amount of additional work after that.
The US never became the world's superpower because it did anything "moral" or had "character" or anything remotely like that. The US became the world's superpower because Europe and Japan decided to do WW2 and destroy everything, while committing atrocity after atrocity after atrocity.
It was never anything about the US per se that made it a superpower. It was to a much greater extent incredible moral, economic and military failings on the part of everyone else. From Albania to Zimbabwe, Morocco to China.
The US lost superpower status and boom. There are big shooting wars again. In Europe. In Asia. I was kind of hoping it to take at least a decade or two after the US lost control. Then again, maybe it has.
it would have been a dealbreaker for me. bought a 26 GMC and CarPlay integrates with the voice-assist button on the steering wheel as well as prevents you from doing unsafe stuff like browsing/sending texts. basically, pushes you to keep your eyes on the road
which part amuses you? the one where the former uploads all your data to the cloud only to be mismanaged and surveilled or the where the latter doesn't?
I live in a neighborhood of older retired folks and I get this vibe from them as well when walking my younger kids. Their faces light up with joy. Just another season in life I suppose. Let's enjoy it while we can.
I can honestly say, I think there was a chemical change in my brain or a biological equivalent when my kids were born. That is to say, something more primal than the "love" you can get from a spouse/SO; you feel it in your bones, deep down, always on and changed forever.
Very similar experience. Bought a v8 GMC for RVing and while turbo v6s can handle similar payloads, the turbos themselves break very often. The v8 sound and feel is a nice extra benefit.

Using AI as leverage for labor is myopic. The businesses that thrive will be the ones that use it to automate and allow its employees to go deeper and innovate. The fish can rot from the head or not.
