I see probing questions as the sole justification of the classroom format. If I'm to merely sit and listen, I'd much rather have either a good text or a recording of a professionally produced lecture to watch at my own pace.

Yes, I was originally coming from the same place. However, not all instructors can handle this, and many peer students could not stand it either.

When I say "student", I mean anyone in the audience, and "instructor" is anyone at the podium, talking.
