It seems like that mentality would make building a community of any kind difficult, as programming communities (companies, shared libraries, etc) are all about being able to read and improve one another's code.


I interpret this more as saying that it is ok if there is a barrier to entry. If it takes you six months of programming Clojure before you can easily read idiomatic code written by other people for example - maybe he's ok with that.
